South Dakota does not have the same requirements for larger rigs
that Texas and some other states do. The following two documents
are copied from the South Dakota Drivers licensing manuals (click
for legible/printable larger copies) originals of these can be
obtained by calling the SD DMV at 1-800-944-4004
The bottom line in South Dakota is that there are
no Class A-B-C non-commercial licenses issued under any
circumstances since they don't exist under South Dakota laws. This
is also shown on the back of your drivers license, you an operate
a "car / lt. truck / moped /non CDL vehicle" with a class 1
license. You do need a Class 2 to operate a motorcycle or a Class
3 to operate a "car / lt. truck / moped / non CDL vehicle" and a
motorcycle. Since there is no special license there is no special
test either. Surrender your old license, get your eyes checked and
a photo taken, get handed your new license for five (5) years.

folks, the one on the left, an extract from the South Dakota law,
gives the RV exemption in sub-paragraph (4). The one on the right
is an extract from the South Dakota Commercial Drivers License
(CDL) Manual that in the center of the middle paragraph states RV
operators are exempt.
